I sing and play 6-string and 12-string guitars. I arrive with all necessary equipment, including a PA system, and can easily adapt to different-sized indoor or outdoor venues. My goal is to play a diverse set of recognizable songs geared toward the listening pleasure of the audience. While I am always happy if the audience decides to sing along, or even dance, I do not try to sound like a full band. In other words, I do not use prerecorded backing tracks or drum machines. My musical style spans a wide spectrum, including classic rock, folk-rock, country and oldies. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, listening to early rock and doo wop music on AM radio. Like many of my contemporaries, I bought my first guitar in 1965, inspired by The Beatles and other groups that were part of the 'British invasion'. As lead guitarist with local rock bands, such as The Blue Knights and Middle Earth, I had fun playing at school dances and local clubs, covering many of the top musical acts of the day (Doors, Rascals, Bee Gees, Creedence Clearwater Revival). Ultimately, my pursuit of a career in cancer research left little time for performing professionally. However, exploring new music and playing guitar remained my favorite pastimes. Upon my retirement and relocation to Florida, I began participating in jam sessions, open mics, and impromptu benefit gigs with local musicians. For the past three years, I have enjoyed playing solo at local communities and cafes in the Venice, North Port and Sarasota area, including Del Webb-Lakewood Ranch, Island Walk, Village Walk, Talon Preserve, Barrel & Bean, and the Italian American Club of Venice. Many of the artists I cover are no longer with us, so I consider it a privilege to help keep their great music alive!
